Dear people, the 460, which already has hot-starting issues,(cannot find the whole starter motor!) has another problem.
It shuts down when idling in a traffic jam. Revving is quite low, and getting lower after giving some throttle, and then shuts down.
Can it have something to do with a summer/winter valve in front of the air filter?
Or, due to a polluted fuel filter(where can i find it??)
Thanks..
Arnaud

I don't think the 460 has a summer/winter setting for the air filter.
The fuel filter is under the car in a cradle on the right hand side of the car.
Are you showing any fault codes?
Bill.

Not every code switches on the warning light. With a problem like this it is best to check for fault codes as a first step in diagnosis. It is easy to do on your car and the instructions are pinned at the top of the forum.

This picture show the OBD unit and its location.
There is only one LED, as shown in the picture. If codes are set in the OBD the LED will flash the first number (e.g.1), pause then flash the second number (e.g. 2), pause and flash the third number (e.g. 3). If more than one code is set there will be a pause of three seconds before the next code is displayed.
I haven't measured the OBD unit but it isn't very big.

Dear people, we really can use some help. we've done the following;
changed spark plugs and air filter, cleaned all connectors and changes rubber and plastic tubes.
Also gave it to the local volvo dealer which did not solve anything, but costs us a lot of money.
Also i bought a other idle regulatur thingy(which is suspended in a rubber band in frontof the engine) and a new inlet rubber hose but this one did not have an entrance for the breather(i think it is, next to the air temp. sensor)
but it is still behaving the same.
When i disconnect this new part(the idle regulatir) it runs much higer RPM's
is it an solution to leave it like this and compensate with the idle screw???

I understand the knowledge about this car is very limited.
the problem could be the cuomputer but the manual doenst state where this is located. I really wonder why they do not do this.
Also there would be an adjustebla contrller switch at the gas valve but the closest one i can find is the switch/thyngy underneath this unit. but this is not rotatable/adjustable. So i really do not understand why they state this. I already threw this manual out.
Does ANYONE PERHAPS know an adress whre i can find SOME expertise about this car??
We really regret buying it and feel like burning it down.

I have been going through my books and manuals but am coming up with nothing on this problem. I have done a quick search on http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/index.shtml but have not found anything. However, if you register on their forum you can ask your question there. The 440/460 still has a good following in the UK.

okay, we are still stuck with this- definately our last- volvo.
it is hardly rideable.
we replaced; spark plugs, distributor, air filter, air filter hose, air flow meter, step-engine(that coil like thing what should regulate idling) all vacuum and other hoses, cleaned air valve, and still it is no single effect.
The current plan is to set it on fire on new-years eve..
does anyone have an alternative?
