Retrofit auto dim rearview mirror?
If I have an S60 with a manual dim rear view mirror, would it be possible to retrofit an auto dim mirror in it's place? If I swapped the glass and mated it to the old UEC, would it be pre-programmed to work the auto dim?

It should work, but you have to weld 2 wires from the auto dim mirror to the circuit board.
Usually folks do the other way around, replace a failed auto dim with a manual mirror.
Check the circuit board of your manual mirror, does it have 2 posts for welding at the top and bottom portion. If it does then your project is doable.

Hm. I'll have to open the manual mirror and check the board for solder pads but it sounds like it may be worth a gamble if I can pick up an autodim unit for cheap.
I'm wondering if the dealer will need to send a new load to it to make the computer aware of the autodim or if it will simply pick it up on its own.

I believe that if you use your own circuit board, there is no need for software update from the dealer. The auto dim feature is dependent on electrical current depending on the signal from the mirror's eye sensor, thus no software update.
