My 850 died last nite...

Due to a head on collision last night, my 850 is out of commission. Unfortunately I slacked on having full coverage. I'll have pics up by tomorrow.

I'm looking at another 850...the guy says it has a misfire on cylinder 3 due to a burned valve, OBD II code P0303. This sound right? If so,whats the estimate of what it would cost? Could i drive it until i fix it? He's only asking $800, with 212k on it.

Burned valve means you're going to have to rip the head off and replace all of the valves, replace the valve seats, etc. Not too bad of a DIY if you aren't afraid of tearing into the motor. It's up to you. I don't knwo how much this will cost at a shop but I'm guessing it won't be cheap.

give you some idea of costs to replace valves adjust the costs for your local taxes etc until you remove the head you aren't going to know how many valves and stems you're going to need, it won't be all 20 but will be at least 2 of each. Engine shops are going to charge several hundred to do this job where a replacement engine might be the same cost

Inlet valve $15 each x 10
Exhaust $10 each x 10
Valve stems $6 inc fitting
Gasket set $100

you can buy a reman from Clearwater cylinder head for $450 and save all those steps. Gasket kit will run you $100 and while you doing this you will want to do the T-belt, tensioner, pulleys and water pump. That's about $350 more

If he's got the head off, why not replace all of the valves?
