99 S70 why is it exceedingly hot inside the cabin

I have a 99 S70 non-turbo with 127k miles on it. Recently I notice that the temperature inside the car is always much higher than outside and I start to wonder whether there is something wrong with the car. I've kept the coolant level in check. Coincidentally the ETS light came on several weeks ago. I'm in the process of getting the ETM replaced, but I'm not sure whether it has anything to do with the temperature issue. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.

Inside the cabin or inside the engine bay? If it's inside the cabin, are you sure the heater isn't on?

I meant inside the cabin, before the engine is started, even in a breezy or rainy day, the passenger and I can still feel the temperature in the cabin is a few degrees higher than outside. Most times one would kind of sweat in a shirt when sitting in the car, but on the other hand need to put on a sweater or jacket when walking outside. No, I checked the A/C and it was off.

This seems like a silly question, but is your interior a dark color? I ask b/c you said that it would be hot in there before the engine is even on.

Well, any car with windows closed in even moderately overcast conditions will be a prime example of the greenhouse effect. My wagon is almost always hotter inside than outside unless I've had the windows rolled down to let air through it. There can't really be anything wrong with your car just because it's a little warm even thought it's been sitting for a while. Unless you've got some weird electrical issue, but then you'd probably know because your car would be on fire.

Thanks for sharing your experience with your car, which is exactly what I need to know. The interior of my car is light tan leather. I got the car for nearly two years, but it is just recently that I started to notice this problem and get concerned. I was wondering whether there might be some electrical issue, but I did not notice any other symptom except the ETS light. I have read many posts about the ETS light because I am going to replace the ETM, but the cabin temperature does not seem have anything to do with it.

On another note, in the midnight of May 8, my friends and I witnessed a car burning scene on the highway between San Francisco and Walnut Creek. No film crew around !

I sometimes put a thermometer in my car, just to see how hot it gets.
It's gotten well over 130 F before.

Mine is dark blue on black leather, it's ridiculous during the summer.

I left my sunglasses on the dash the other day, then put them on my face. Ouch.

I need to find my sunshade...
