This has happened to me more than once and I had to bring it to the dealer. I can't for the life of me figure out how to open the rear cup holder. I am assuming that my son pushed it too far in and the "retractable" sides stuck somehow. Now it only opens 1/5 of the way. I stick my fingers in and cannot understand why it won't open, nor can I figure out how to remove the whole deal.
Please help!
Rear Cup holder won't open
Hi, My kids hve done this too. Get 2 long knives & put down either side of cup holder & gently push the arms of cup holder in. What has happened is that they weren't fully retracted before pushing back in. It might make it easier if you lift handle at the bottom & remove whole arm rest. Hope this helps, remember be patient with it or you'll break it

Thanks worked on mine. Pull it out about an inch. Table knife from top pointed at outside there is a little arm you want to be on the outside of. A little flick to the center will fold in the arm. Both my arms were out.
I have had this issue several times, probably from kids pushing in the cupholder not so carefully.
Here is how I fix it:
- take out the whole center console by pulling on the handle below the cupholders.
- get a headlamp and be in a well-lit area
- from a metal clothes hanger cut a 8-10 inch piece and make a small L or hook at the end
- use that to pull the cupholder arms in
