Best Brake pads

Post by hornetdriver »

Hello all,

I am in the process of replacing my brake pads ('01 V70). Rotors are in great shape according to the local dealership. Anyway, doing a little searching around I am stuck on which pad to get: ceramic or semi-metallic.

What are the best pads out there? I am leaning towards the ceramic pads, who is the best manufacturer?

Thanks for your time.

I have always had good luck with the hawks. That would be my pick.

Thanks for the reply.

Do you find an increase in rotor wear with the ceramics?

Anyone see a problem mixing ceramics up front with semi-metallic in the rear (as my rear brake pads are still good to go)?

Theres no problem with using ceramic in the front and semi-metallics in the back.
For inexpensive ceramics I've had great luck with the Wearever ceramics from Advance Auto, virtually dust free, quiet and stop well for about $45. Napa sells a good ceramic pad but they're about $75 if i recall correctly.
Akebono Euro series Ceramics are great and go for about $65 i think, depending where you get them from, they stop great and are long lasting also.
I've never used them but I hear the Hawk pads are about the best out there.

re: rotor wear, the metals are softer,, in my Opinion, and published as such. BRAKE PADS,, I have been using EBC green stuff, Ceramic and Kevlar,,so far and 24 months later I like them, ..easy to clean dust..I brush the wheels off. I removed the Rear pads 1 month ago and ,,so much metal in the OEM.. Remember Brakes are measured by how well they work under extreme heat.

Garage door spring just broke, so the brake job just moved down a notch.

Alright, garage door is fixed. :D Piece of cake really.

Ordering the brake pads tonight. On the fence regarding EBC or Hawk. Really, probably does not matter, it's not like I race the XC70!

I'll get back to the lurkers later, hopefully with pics for the inspiring DIY.
