1996 440 1998cc won't start

Post by Downunder440 » Wed Jun 16, 2010 3:13 am

Hi Folks
I'm a Kiwi owner of a very tidy injected 440 with the 1998 injected engine. My problem is it won't start as of today. Was running perfectly prior and was driven 40km's and parked for the day. On trying to start it will turn over and has spark at the plugs. But will not fire and run. I would really appreciate it if anyone could help me. Thanks

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.

To get the engine to fire you need spark and fuel. You have checked the first but is fuel getting through to the engine? Try cranking it then pull a spark plug and see if the tip is wet.

Next step is to check for fault codes using the On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) unit in the engine bay. Instructions for its use on the 440 are pinned at the top of this forum. This is a first step in diagnosis for these cars. Post back with results for further help.

Bill.
