ETS LITE ON

2000 S70 -I can't figure out why the light comes on and off. There are no obvious signs of poor performance. Should i take precautions :?:

(One post is sufficient)
It could be a bad brake switch, that WILL throw an ETS light
You need to have it scanned at a VOLVO dealer

ETS = Electronic throttle system.

It's ok, the board acts up sometimes and posts stuff twice. I did it the other day - I deleted the other one for you.

It wouldn't hurt to clean (or have cleaned) your throttle body. As they get old, gunk builds up on the plate, and causes the electronic throttle units to fail.

This is for an S80 but it's a good video, so the screws he talks about are different, but the concept is more or less the same on the 5-cylinder motor.

ok now i'm confused with the "brake switch" repair but its a throttle system code. will the dealer or autozone pin point which one?

I would take it and get the codes pulled & it will give us a better idea. Autozone/generic scanners will not read those codes to be specific enough to help.

You really need to go to Volvo with their scanner which is Volvo specific.
It will point you on the right track, then get back to us.
If your car is running as well as it did before, I'm leaning to a faulty brake switch
Yeah, I know, what does an ETM light have to do with a brake switch, hell if I know, but it does!
If Volvo says that is what their reader says you need, buy the part, not that hard to install it yourself
