Hi there,
I've been hunting around for a good new to me Volvo and a friend of my fiancee's mother is going to be selling her 2001 S80 in a month or two. I'm not sure if it's the Turbo model or the straight 6 cylinder. If you think it's a good deal, I'll pursue it, but I'm going to find out a little more about it. All I know is that there are about 83k on the clock; it's been serviced religiously by an indy mechanic in Chelsea, MA, and that's all I know so far.
I've poked around the s80 boards here and from what I can see, it looks like the main culprits of failure are the ETM, and the Transmission. From what I understand, they're looking at getting $6000 or so for the vehicle, but I can't see paying that much when you can get an S70 for shorter money, and AFAIK they don't seem to have as many of these problems.
Is there anything I should look into or watch out for if I go to take a look at it, or anything I can use to bargain down the price?
Thanks a lot guys,
Darrell

If I were you, I'd run like hell. Too many problems that are too expensive to fix. Get the S70 (or anything else!) instead.
