850 motor availability

Where would I be able to find a motor for a 1997 Volvo 850 with about 100k between 300-400? Or maybe even less? I have a 1997 850, but it needs a motor...any suggestions and help would be greatly appreciated.

Another reliable source is Tom's (They are all over eBay).

JordanVW over on VolvoSpeed also parts a lot of cars and with the small things I have dealt with him on he has been quite reliable.

How do I know what engine to choose on car-parts.com? And on Erie vo-vo where do I look for, as far as categories, for a motor?

You choose the same motor you have in your car. You can go by VIN, but you've either got a 2.3L turbo, or a 2.4L non-turbo, well or a 2.4L turbo. What model is your car? T5, GLT, R?

Are you looking for a complete take-out engine with all accessories, i.e. turbo, manifolds, alternator, power steering pump, etc. or are you just looking for a long-block? Complete with all accessories isn't going to happen in your price range.

I purchased my motor using car-part.com like JDS60R suggested, but keep in mind that car-part.com is merely a tool to help you search the inventory of junk yards, once you find a motor listed then you've got to contact the junk yard and start wheeling/dealing. Some won't ship, some don't update their inventory so they may not even have it if it's listed, some are meticulous with engine removal and storage, and some cut wires/hoses and sit it on an old tire out in the weather. Once you find a motor you think you want, do a little research on the junk yard selling it.

If you just need a long block, really the sky is the limit between '95 and '00. If you are creative '94 til whenever...
