1998 Volvo S-70 GLT, 94,000 mi, not driven hard or hot. I plan to replace coolant this fall for the first time and am wondering if I need to replace radiator hoses, heater hoses and the few other hoses that carry coolant? They are still flexible and not leaking. Some white deposits at the motor end of the lower radiator hose. Niles

White deposit is a leak. Current EPDM hose start to fail by getting soft at the ends nearest the motor or rad (not in the middle) . Squeeze the middle and the ends - if the ends are softer then replace the hose. I find the lower rad hose closest to the rad goes first. Not sure if its the flare or the hose.
I prefer Gates ECD/ECR hoses and Gates Powergrip SB clamps along with Volvo coolant and distilled water mixed at a 50/50 ratio.
Its best to replace the hoses as a set -especially at 100K miles or greater than 4 years in service. The gates hoses do last significantly longer as they are very resistant to ECD. ( Electro chemical degredation) .Volvo hoses are good for at least 4 years . Never had aproblem with them lasting longer than the standard aftermarket stuff.

I recently replaced the expansion tank (cracks) and the coolant hoses that go to it, plus the short turbo coolant hose above the heat shield. This one was swollen up like a hot dog, ready to burst. I looked at URO but chose OEM from the dealer.
1997 855 GLT (Light Pressure Turbo) still going strong. Previous: 1986 240 GL rusted out in '06, 1985 Saab 900T rusted out in '95, 1975 Saab 99 rusted out in '95, 1973 Saab 99 rusted out in '94
