Newb with a '99 S80 T6

Post by danks_S80 »

Hey all, new to the board. I'm from WI and bought my '99 S80 T6 (1st Volvo) back in '05 and was instantly in love with it. I had to have it so bad (mostly because it has leather and suede interior) that I flew one-way to Houston and drove back all in under 24 hours. Unfortunatly my feelings about this car have soured over the years as she has been giving me headaches for at least the last 2+ years. The latest to iratate me is the gas door hinge, so while searching the internet for a new one I came across this board and am blown away with all the info on here. I have looked at numerous threads and see so many others that have had the same problems as me. Issues like the window coming off the track, the alarm siren not working, ABS failure warning, or the rear view mirror looking like a lava lamp just to name a few of the recent ones. Some of these I have tackled myself (window replacement), others I have had done (major issues), and some I have just ignored (siren module). Now with this site I will probably be attempting a few more (fuel door hinge, rear view mirror, etc.).

There appears to some very intelligent and handy people on this board, and hopefully I will be able to add some additional input whenever I can.

Yes, welcome, Danks.

Don't feel like you're alone with that '99. My dad's '99 S80 T6 has been lighting up its message center with many varied, serious-sounding messages. It's been at a Volvo dealer on and off for over a week while they try to pry the secrets from her.

He's cut from decidedly non-mechanic cloth, and I don't have time to help him with it, so with around 100k miles it may be time to send it down the river. I recently emailed JRL about a nice 2005 XC70 he has in the Classifieds, but that may be gone now. I also suggested a '97 or '98 850/V70 wagon for $2-3k, then about a grand for fluids/filters at his neighborhood Volvo tech to get it shipshape. CHEAP yet comfortable, safe utility with one of those.

He's needed a wagon because he maintains 4 or 5 rental apartments, but has gotten by with a combo of the S80 and borrowing his buddy's pickup truck.
