Help Bulb Problem and headlight out

2004 s60 2.5T AWD

Bought new low beam bulbs from "Daniel Stern"'s website to improve nightime vision which is very poor.

Manual says it should be a H7 55W

Bought a good one from Stern.

Went to install per manual's instruction and found this:

Please help as I damaged the old bulb pulling it out. I take it these are Halogen but don"t know why they are on this car as I never replaced them and bought it CPO from the dealer at 8K miles. Maybe someone swapped them out.

Need to know:

-what these are
- options to replace for better nightime vision
-also note that 'highbeam" (#3 on back of manual) never comes on- lights just angle up.

That Phillips bulb that was in your car looks just like an HID lamp.
Google the number on the side of the bulb to be sure.

You must also have a ballast that fires the xenon HID that is mounted behind the headlight assy.
My other car uses these lamps, great light output, I love them.
