Torx screws, spark plugs... and turbo (1994 850 turbo)

So I'm trying to replace my spark plugs today, I have my torx bit all ready to go to take the spark plug cover off, and it turns out the bolts are so rusted up and stripped it it would be almost impossible to get them off. Not to mention three of the better conditioned bolts are blocked by the turbo and inaccessible to my wrench. How the heck am I supposed to work around this? advice?

Soak the bolts with lots of PB Blaster, then bear down HARD on your wrench/screwdriver and at sort of an angle, and you can probably get most of em loose. The ones around the turbo pipe can be got to with an extension easily, or you can remove the pipe altogether (it makes it much easier to slide the cover off).

Pick up some new bolts at your dealer if there's one close by. You can leave the cover off for the time being, but it's there to keep crap from getting under the spark plug boots that will fall down into the cylinders when you change plugs.

Thanks for the advice and the quick response, however I can see how the extender will work for one of the bolts obstructed by the pipe, but there are two that are partially covered by the pipe, inaccessible from above, I may be able to access them from an angle but they are pretty well covered up. How would I go about removing the turbo pipe? Sorry, I'm a noob mechanic.

I have had some difficulties getting the spark plug cover bolts out due to rusted out bolts and I just soak them in PB Blaste and then pound in the next largest size torx head bit into the old rusted out bolts. It isn't pretty but it works and you will need new bolts.

I actually just did mine today... Used a wobble extension. I wouldn't recommend a universal joint but you could probably get away with using it.

You can use a bolt extractor to get them out. It's like a bit that bites into the head as you turn it counter clockwise. Then replace the bolts with new ones.
'94 855T Wagon (120K)= Boost and a booster seat all in one.
