Where is the oil leaking from? oilpan? oil cooler? oil pump? If you let us know someone will post the procedure for you. Or go to ebay and buy a copy of VADIS for $10

Don't panic yet, $1,000 and they are not telling you what needs to be done to correct it?
Oil leaks can be tricky to find the source, wind blows thru the engine compartment and the oil can be driven from the source to what appears to be the site of the leak.
Things to check first, the oil gasket on the oil filler cap, hardens and shrinks with age, allows oil to seep out, flow under the plastic volvo cover and exit on the passenger side. Leaking cam seals also can be the cause. Especially on the exhaust side. The oil cooler can also be a source.
Clean the engine off with a gentle degreaser such as simple green and try to find the source.
Has the engine ever had any work to the head or valves? Might be a sealant/glue leak?
