Parts needed for timing belt job?

My 1995 Volvo 850 2.4l non turbo probably has never had the timing belt replaced, the car has now approx. 107,300 miles, first does anyone know at around what mileage the belt usually will break? Second what parts aside from the belt should I need to buy if any, links would be helpful.

It will break between 80 and 100K usually. You should change it immediately.
Change the
timing belt, tensioner, idler pulley, water pump, Volvo antifreeze, distilled water and radiator cap. Inspect all coolant hoses and replace them and quality clamps while the system is empty.

For the cam timing parts I suggest Volvo parts from www.volvopartsonline.com above. This is the wrong place to use lesser parts.

I'm with JDS60R on this one. My normal rule of thumb is to change all of the timing components and the water pump on every other timing belt change but you are well beyond the first 70k change interval. It will put you slightly ahead of the game but the peace of mind is priceless.

If you can't afford all of the parts at least throw a "stay alive" timing belt on and you can evaluate the condition of the other components while you are there.

If you just replace the belt you will need to do the whole shebang again at the 140k interval along with another new belt. The good news is that the belts themselves are dirt cheap.

The parts you linked are not Volvo parts. You will be using them at your own risk. I suggested Volvo parts for this job.

Some here are aware of which company makes the parts for Volvo so they may help you find the same Volvo part at a lower cost. This would be fine. Using other parts has proven to be a gamble over the years.

Over a rash of aftermarket parts failures last year I made some calls to the aftermarket parts manufacturers that I have a relationship with. Those calls revealed that they are striving to get back to OEM quality. At one point they were slightly ahead but budget cutbacks over the last 5 years has dropped quality.

+10 on using genuine Volvo parts on the timing components, except the water pump. Following Lee's advise, I bought Hepu pump ($50 after discount from FCP) which is really well built and made in Germany, as the Volvo"s (Aisin) is made in Czech republic.

And only the idler pulley out of those 3 linked above is not oem.

It may say OEM but that doesn't mean they are genuine Volvo- call FCP and ask them- they do have genuine Volvo parts- don't skimp on those. Trust me- I'm one who had the timing belt skip and had to have the top of his engine rebuilt after a tensioner pulley dust cap fell of in the timing belt path. I had used an INA part which was suppose to be OEM but it wasn't Volvo.

Hi MadeInJapan. Does this mean that INA makes one quality level for Volvo and another for aftermarket?

Well, I ordered a set of E-brake shoes from them as "M-B OEM". That turns out is a pair of Chinese made Meyle brand shoes. My M-B parts guy, who has been doing M-B parts for 35 years, laughed at me when I asked the question and replied, "Meyle? maybe, but they are sure not made in china...". After a call to FCP, they will kindly replace them with ATE's.
