What's the most common problems with the rear hatch door rattling quite a bit on 1996 S/W? Pretty annoying!

I had good luck fixing the squeak by applying a layer of tape at the three rubber cushions and also screwing two screws through the tailgate carpeting into the metal frame. Silent now!
Good luck! :)

I got some 2" machine screws and fixed them but good... One in each corner of the carpeted area fixed it 95%. I still have a small squeak somewhere in the back from a panel rubbing... just need to have someone drive around with me in the back to pinpoint it.

I also removed the top trim to fix the check valve in the sprayer - which destroyed every clip because they were so brittle. I put a screw in the corner of the left and right side. Doesn't look great but it was free and took 10 minutes to do.

When you fix it, regardless of how you do it... try to not slam the door closed. My gas struts are shot - when I close the door I let it drop from about 10" away from the latch.

I suggest after you take the rear panel off to drive around first and make sure there are not additional rattles to take care of first.
'94 855T Wagon (120K)= Boost and a booster seat all in one.

On my 97 wagon, I installed the IPD kit, and it fixed the rear panel but the trim around the rear window still rattles. It seems to be held in place where it inserts into the rear panel, but not tightly. I'm going to have to put some trim tape behind it.

FYI, after installing the IPD kit, if you need to take your panel off again, follow the steps in the instructions that came with it exactly to prevent breaking your new clips. Release the upper ones last, NOT by pulling on them, but by lifting upward to disengage the clips from the door itself. Remove the clips from the repaired holes by turning them 90 degrees before wiggling them out. Lesson learned. :(
