Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Some questions...

Post by new99S80owner »

I just got a 99 Volvo S80 2.9. I have noticed that the car runs abit rough as of the past 2 days. I notice that it tends to hesitate, or spit and sputter when I try to accelerate at a steady pace. I noticed it on Saturday, when I was driving down the highway. I've read a few things on this Forum regarding stauling S80's ext. My S80 has 87,500 miles. I think the problem may lie in getting a simple tune-up, and replacing the Spark Plugs. Is this something I could do my self? Does anyone have past experience?
I also heard of possible bad vacum hoses, or even a computer malfunction. I'm a bit reluctant to take it back to the Volvo dealership, to have them spend more needless money on process of elimination... Does any one have any advice?

Always work from simple --> complex when solving a problem.

In this case you want to change the spark plugs and run some fuel treatment through it. Spark plugs are easily done by owners, you just need a socket for your ratchet that fits the spark plug, a gap tool, and spark plugs.

Two other very simple things are: check the condition of the air filter, and check for things around the engine that don't look right. Tubes that don't lead anywhere. Disconnected electrical cables. Things like that.

Post back here if you need help with any of that.
