98 S70 not getting fuel or coolant temp sensor bad?

Post by creekpreacher »

The car drove fine to work yesterday, no issues. I went to start it at 11 am and it started and stalled out and then would not start at all. The fan began to run even with key off(unplugged battery to stop that). I saw some conversations about coolant temp sensor(CTS) not sending accurate motor temp to ecu and therefor not sending enough fuel to start cold motor. I unplugged the CTS and still nothing and fan began running again. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like you're on the right track - the ECT (CTS) is bad.

If unplugged the fan will run as a precaution and the engine will assume it's hot.

Hi, yes as I recall that happened to my 98 S70 as well. It was the coolant sensor.
