I just bought this car. The exhaust has a 3" cat back pipe with a "performance" muffler sticking out of the back. The damn muffler is so loud it prevents conversation in the car.
I'd like to keep the 3" pipe but replace the muffler. Any suggestions on a replacement muffler?

Your 3" exhaust pipe is what's causing the noises and drones
A NON turbo by nature and design is a louder car.
You need to go back to 2-1/4"-2-1/2" whatever the stock exhaust is
As for a quiet muffler for a 3" pipe, that does not exist!
If this is not in the cards $$ wise, you need to add a center resonator
ANYTHING will help you a bit, these cars have a middle muffler plus a rear resonator stock
A performance exhaust does nothing for your car anyway

Can't understand why people put drainpipes on their cars. I see Civics daily with 3 inch exhausts. They are just Loud. There is such a thing as too big. 3" is fine for a 3litre engine running 15 psi of boost (if its a well made system) but entirely too large for a 2.3 litre NA or LPT engine. Agree with the above, if $ are an issue, go and rob a stock system from a wrecked car. It will almost certainly make your car run better.
