It appears that my 95 Volvo 850 turbo's steering rack is compromised
after a curb strike at about 40 mph. I've just replaced the bent wheel
and strut. A test drive showed the power steering to be rough and pulling
to one side....you have to rotate the steering wheel about 45 degrees from
the neutral position in order to drive straight. I'd like to replace the entire
rack. Is there a difference between steering racks on the turbo and non-turbo?
Is there a tutorial on doing a rack replacement?
thanks, Phil

I read up on this a little while ago when I noticed one of my outer tie rod boots was torn and found out is actually kind of a pain in the butt. You have to drop the subframe a little bit to get it out, and there is a motor mount that is attached to the rack too (I am pretty sure)
One thing to think about (if your rack isn't cracked and leaking fluid of course) is replacing the inner and outer tie rod on the damaged side and seeing if it will take an alignment. It sounds like it is pretty bad though, so that is probably a shot in the dark.
Also be careful to check to see if the frame is twisted or not.

There are several racks
Any jobber will (should) ask you for the numbers on YOUR rack before they send one out
