New switch, no start.

I disconnected the battery and let the car sit for 20 minutes. I removed the ignition switch, installed the new one per the directions, and now everything turns on fine, but the car does not turn over or spin the starter whatsoever.

What the hell happend?

The switch is a brand new Volvo unit straight out of the plastic packaging and I was careful to follow all the directions.

Are your hazard lights blinking? Removing the battery can often trigger the alarm system which will activate the immobilizer. Try closing the doors (all of them) and then lock and unlock the car and give it another try.

Grab the shifter and row it quickly back and forth between park and l a few times as well. You might have an issue with the PNP switch instead of the ignition switch. Although, if I remember correctly, you also had issues with electrical accessories not starting up when the car was, so that needed to be replaced anyway.

Hey guys- I read the other thread going with a guy having a similar problem in his 99...

I found the service connector, got a jumper wire, threw the car in neutral and it started right up. So that rules out the solenoid or the starter.

Next?

would the lights still dim off if the PNP switch was bad? When I turn the key to engage the starter, the lights turn off just like they should but no starter engagement happens. If it will still do that with a bad PNP switch then I guess that is the culprit. I can't think of anything else.

One more thing - would it hurt anything if I installed some sort of momentary "on" switch in the meantime? I don't have that kind of dough right now... I drove it today buy doing the jumper thing from the service connector and it drove fine...so I'm assuming it won't hurt anything..
