what to do about leaking turbo

Post by volvoQs »

740 turbo, 249,000

leaking oil at turbo badly, bad enough I don't want to drive it anymore as it smells and I really don't think it's healthy to be breathing burnt oil...

can I bypass the turbo if the mechanic (this tues), can't find/stop/fix the turbo leaks?

if so...how?

Are you sure it's the turbo leaking oil and only the turbo if it is the turbo at all? They sell turbo rebuild kits for about 100.
I was losing oil, lots of it, my daughter told me she couldn't drive the car any longer because she couldn't breathe.
I sent it out to a friend and another garage. Friend said let it go don't fix too expensive, garage said turbo was leaking and not worth fixing.

Well the car runs beautiful now. After cleaning all the oil off and under the engine I was able to identify the leaks. PCV KIT FOR $108 and rear camshaft seal for $11.50, lots of help from the folks on this site and one saturday and the car is great.
