Help, Advice, Owners' Discussion and DIY Tutorials on Volvo's stylish, distinctive P2 platform cars sold as model years 2001-2007 (North American market year designations).
Does anyone have any idea what makes my tracs light illuminate in the warning symbol area of my dashboard . It is the only light that comes on after about 1km of driving. When I shut the car off and turn it back on the light resets and isn`t illuminated...it only comes on after driving for about 1km. This is driving me crazy and any info could be usefull advice. Thanks
Furthermore, my car is not equipped with a DSTC or STC button switch in the center console.

So I don't know weather or not my car came equipped with DSTC/STC but it definitely has the TRACS light associated with DSTC/ STC. When the TRACS light comes on, after 1km or so, it doesn't blink, it just stays solid. I don't feel any pulsating with my brakes or anything that would resemble the car trying to regain traction. In fact nothing changes when the light goes on...it just becomes annoying.
So today I was taking some photos of my TRACS light and the console.
File of where the stc button should be....

While stopped on the side of the road and taking the photos of the dash, the TRACS light turned off So it seems that the light will come on around 1km, then disappear if in park for a few minutes.
Tracs light on!
TRACS off one minute after being in Park!
Maybe this can help in the diagnostics.

oh and the check engine is pulling the code for a small evap leak. I think it may be the j-hose that is cracked. I will have to check that one out soon.

The TRACS/STC feature consists of just a few different parts, the ABS module of course, different master cylinder with larger lines between M/cyl and the ABS pump/modulator unit and two additional valves in the pump/modulator with two additional solenoid windings integrated with ABS module.
The Tracs will shut down and illuminate only TRACS lamp for a very few reasons. IF the ABS module's tracking of
TRACS on time leads it to believe brakes are reaching a high temperature, rule this one out.
If the ABS module determines that the control circuits for devices only used for TRACS are faulty.
And of course if the ABS module itself has an internal fault related to regulation of the TRACS functions.
You have to get somewhere with VADIS or VIDA or other systems that can read ALL systems on late Volvos.
Fault codes in the ABS module should point to something.
Thanks Jimmy57 for your response. This is really informative. I have had my ABS module diagnosed with VADIS at Volvo, so I will have a look at the report to see if something may be at fault.
