Antennae replacement

Post by rapster62 »

I am trying to replace the antenna on a 1997 S40 SE with one bought through the internet. I have successfully rmove the old one however, when I feed the new one into through the existing housing the base of the new antenna appears too large to fit into the existing sleeve and sits on top. As a result the antenna does not fully retract. I have also tried to see if there is a residual sleeve in the housing, but can't seem to see one. Can anyone help?

Cheers,

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. There is a another part that has to come out. If you notice in the new antennae kit, there is the antennae and a small metal sleeve. There is a metal sleeve inside the antennae mast. You have to remove that piece in order for the new antennae to fully retract. I was worried about breaking the mast, so I just left it as is. So my antennae sticks up, but it is an improvement over having an antennae at a 90 degree angle (aka broken). I think other threads talk about pulling out this old metal sleeve with pliers and brute force (but it does come out). I didn't want to get it half out and then have the antennae not fit at all. Maybe one day if I am feeling adventurous I might try to correct it. Look closer and you should be able to see what I am talking about. I wasn't convinced there was anything to remove either at first.

I just had the same problem with one from FCP; instructions could have been better. I wasn't aware the small post was inside the housing and had to be removed. As a result of the last 16 inches or so staying upright it snapped off within afew days of fitting it.

Not saying this will happen to you, but you know what they say about Murphy.....
