2002 XC70 - 82k
No problems with this vehicle until last Thursday when I tried to go to work and decided not to start.
- Key won't go past position I to crank
- No codes
- Shifter is in park
- Steering wheel locks and unlocks
- Tried the spare key, no luck
Thinking it may be the "start inhibitor", but not 100% sure. I was really hoping for some codes from it, but the reader comes out clean.
Local dealership will sell a new inhibitor for $250. I hate to buy this and it not be the problem and be stuck with a part I can not return.
Any ideas?

I would spray some WD-40 in the keyway to see if you can get it to turn, most likely the lock has failed mechanically, you wont know until you get it apart. There is a good write up here.

Heh, little late, but this pretty much worked. Mechanical issue that needed a little muscle. The lock was later replaced. Thanks for the help!
