I have to replace front and rear springs (3 of 4 are broken) on my 2000 Volvo V40 T1.9 (124K). The cost for the stock replacement springs is approx $425. In checking out prices online I came across a custom lowering kit for $210. The info indicated the kit lowered the vehicle by 1" and as a result a lower center of gravity promoted better handling. It appears I can get better performance for half the cost, but, I can't help but think of the old saying "If it sounds to good to be true, it probably isn't". If I were to install the lowering kit does it require other modifications? Different shocks? Smaller tires?
In addition I have to replace a broken lower rear motor mount. I have a rumble, vibration, and assorted rattles that I assume are due in part to the broken motor mount. Will I notice an improvement in the ride and feel of the car after putting the quoted $1100 into the spring and motor mount repairs?
