Noisy & rough shifting/clutch in 2010 V50

Post by zl9600 »

New to the forum, and was looking for a little "me too" if I could find it:

I have a 2010 V50 AWD R design, 6 speed manual. Love the car but the shifting in this car is so incredibly noisy in the first few gears. Shifting is not very smooth and when you move the stick from 1 to 2 and so on, you hear a very pronounced grind (I'm talking not just a vibration feedback in your hand but also outside of the car on the street) as you shift.

What's worse, is when you depress the clutch, you get a pronounced "clunk" noise that is really quite noticeable to someone on the street (a neighbor of mine asked me if something was wrong with my car as it sure sounded like a rattly transmission). I suspect this continues at all gears, but obviously when the car is going slowly, from stop signs, etc, around town, you notice it because you're driving slowly.

Dealer told me they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I drive my sister's 2004 Outback stick, and it's so much quieter and smoother. Is this just a Volvo thing?

Thanks in advance!
