Never heard of all that but I will ask my people at Volvo
Mod note. Jim passed away in early 2022, his contributions to this forum are immortal, and he is missed. RIP

The 2004 and 2005 came with a plastic(instead of rubber) corrugated pipe that goes between the intake manifold and engine down to the breather box.
The plastic pipe had a high failure rate of braking in pieces at the corrugated portion, leading to CEL light and oil leaks. That plastic pipe was redesigned back to rubber like the early years and the problem was resolved.
Maybe that high failure broken plastic pipe led to many complaints, leading to a poor reliability score. That pipe is easily replaced with the new design, so don't let that stop you from looking at a 2004 2005 that has been well maintained.

From Edmunds: "Periodic problems on this vehicle are the failure of the Engine Intake Valves ..."
I was wondering if Volvo started to use cheaper metals on intake valves or there was no change in this area compared to previous years?

Interesting. I have not read about such a problem in several volvo forums I visit.EstVolvo wrote:From Edmunds: "Periodic problems on this vehicle are the failure of the Engine Intake Valves ..." I
