ATF Coolant line question - V70 T5 (2001)

Has the previous owner fitted an external ATF cooler rather than risking using the ATF cooler thats integral to the main radiator? When these radiator ATF coolers fail they ruin the Auto Gearbox in a very short time. One other BODGE repair I have seen is to simply join the ATF cooling pipes together thus bypassing the ATF radiator all together, this is not recommended.

You should also be aware that your car doesn't use standard ATF transmission fluid (assuming its an auto) the oil needs to be JWS3309 spec, anything else and you will damage the box, to top up the Auto box the correct spec oil is fed in through the gearbox dipstick tube, plenty of threads on here cover how to check the fluid levels correctly - Mike

A very nice and reputable cooler! Just be sure it's protected by the guard/shield underneath. If it were ever to puncture you'd have junk for a transmission. I'm considering adding a similar cooler to my 850R.

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, the picture shows the cooler line properly attached to the radiator. The one side of the green retaining clip appears to be broken which indicates to me that someone either attempted to remove or removed the line to do a flush/service of the system. That would account for the fluid having a nice pink color. There should be another line at the bottom of the radiator.
