OBX exhaust? Any good?

Post by phat78ta »

just as the title says come out looking for anyone who has best exhaust system, and their opinions on it. if I can get this entire system on ebay for under 400 dollars, and it comes with a lifetime warranty. seems to be a good alternative to the ipd system. This is for my 94 turbo wagon.

I bought an OBX header for my son's '96 N/A. The quality was outstanding but he has EGR and it was a real BI-itch to get the EGR line hooked back up since the nipple for the EGR was slightly inset and at a different angle from the OEM setup. We wound up removing the EGR line and bending it around a beam support pole in the garage to change the angle on the EGR line itself to get it to line up.

Otherwise installation was a snap. The header change was a couple of hours but the EGR line issue was the better part of the next day to resolve.

The lower heat shield mount isn't there on the OBX product but that was a "So What" thing since we forced the air intake at the airbox to the cold air side a long time ago. All the heat shield really does is serve as a hot air collector for the intake on the airbox.

All I know is that they don't have a Catalytic Converter. I don't know if that'll cause the OBD-II to throw codes or anything, and you could certainly have one welded in.

I had the OBX DP on my S60R and it worked very well. It is still on the car after a year and a half and there are no issues with it at all.

How about noise? I want a nice mellow tone, not some fart pipe buzzsaw sounding pos. I love the sound of the 5 popper at wot, and want to help it breathe better.

I've been seeing these on Ebay as well.

Maybe Andrew or Lee could answer this, does the DP have a bend in it, or exhaust fittings that make it specific for Right Hand Drive cars?
In Oztralya we have Left Hand Drive and this option (if its any good) could be the start of very good things if it fits.

Thanks

Arch

Give me until tomorrow morning (USA Central Time) and I will look up the OEM part numbers and see if they are different between LHD and RHD cars. My guess is that they are the same.

In order to get to VADIS I need to shut down my Linux network but I need to do that anyway to get some billing out which only works under Windows and that is where VADIS lives.

I just put an OBX turbo-back system on my wagon 2 weeks ago.

It's louder than stock and has some drone to it. The clamps that come with it are trash, so set aside some money for some real v-band clamps. The fit isn't bad, I do have to tweak a couple of things....but overall it's not bad.

Hey guys, what modifications have to be done to the OBX exhaust to make it work on a N/A? (Is there a write up of that anywhere?) I've been so tempted by the price on eBay, but they all say they're for Turbos, so I figured I just had to look elsewhere...
