Hi im new to the volvo fold and just picked up an 1999 S80 T6, auto, 96,000 in black, a nice car that needs some work doing to make it a very nice car. i have managed to find the answers to nearly all my questions but this 1: on the dash on the right side where the warning lights are i have a light on which i can not trace its meaning, i havent got a pic as yet, it is and upside down Y is the best way to describe it, and its comes up orange. i do not have a hand book to check it against so any help would be great.
the car has the leaking oil pan, no dip sticks for transmission or oil and rust on the bottom of the passenger rear door and the driver lock is not working properly, it lock then unlocks straight away (solenoid i think) and the drivers window drops of its runners (clips) so parts are ordered and its my project for the next couple of weeks.
it runs great so i think once i have sorted these little bits it will be a very nice car.
any help with the warning light would be great.
thanks, james

I've driven mine for 8 years. They are maintenance hogs, I still love it. Drive it about 28K a year for work, without a doubt the most comfortable car I've owned. Use the Forums for help and find a good code reader that can also clear them.
Good luck!

the light you are seeing, is it on all the time or only on acceleration at times?
The traction system light looks somewhat as you describe and is on whenever that system is moderating engine power due to detected wheel slip.

hi thanks for the replies, the light is on all the time, i have been reading and think it could be the lambda sensor light, now it has had new sensors and i wonder if it has not been reset, this seems a common fault. any thaoughts?
and does anyone have a code reader to recomend? thanks

That light means the injection system has detected some fault. There are several generic code readers available. From what I can discover there is no use in getting any that have claims to display live values for certain sensors as those rarely will display any of that info for volvos and many other european makes.
