So, whats the part number for "Shift Solenoid B"
Hey there, long time reader, first time poster.
So, my beloved 1998 S70 (automatic, non turbo) has been having the up arrow of death virus off and on since the day AFTER I bought it. But its gotten a heck of a lot worse. I replaced the PNP switch, but no luck
and rowing the shifter does nothing. So I had the codes read, and it came up with th 775 code of "Shift Solenoid B". I have someone that will do it, if I buy the parts, for 300. I said sure, but I have no idea what the part number is, and my local dealer (AKA thieves) refuses to give me the time of day without knowing it. Any help finding the part number? And any info on doing the job?

has anyone inspected the connector on trans?
Battery acid from a past failed or overfilled battery can get into that connector due to its location.
I would check the connector before you spend a lot of money.

If you do need the shift solenoid, Volvo actually calls them S1 and S2 rather than Solenoid A and Solenoid B, the part number should be 6843783. Both shift solenoids are identical but the torque converter lockup solenoid is different.

When I had to go in to do the S1 that failed, I also did the S2 and SL. The part number for the SL is 6843784.
I'd recommend you make sure they use the Volvo sealant, or else they may be doing the job over (I did).

To Big Red-
I am changing out mine now. It is torn down. I have two questions. Do you remember how much the volvo sealant was?
Also I bought my solenoids from FCP Groton. I noted that the SL Solenoid (which I think is all the way at the bottom)- seems to be different than what is in my cars tranny- although I did hte check at the dealer with my VIN and it shows that number. Did you run across that?
THanks
Mike

I did this at house at that time. Still have that 96 850 and it is still doing great. I decided to do all solenoids and also paid the awful price for the pink sealant. Was 100 dollars then. They only had one huge tube. However, the car is still in service and doing good. So this effort turned out well. Mike
