2000 V70 AWD - Key stuck in ignition

2000 V70 AWD - Key stuck in ignition

For no apparent reason, the key gets stuck in the ignition, and when it does, I need to wait a while until something times out. Then the key is released. What could be causing this? Has anyone had this happen to them? What is the fix?

Sounds like the button on the gear selector is not releasing fully. They tend to get sticky.

Give your shifter a whack. Some WD40 sprayed around the edges of the knob and a paperclip to scrape out the gunk will usually get it working again.

check the shift interlock button to see if it is in the fully raised position
