850 Clutch problems HELP!!!!!!!!

Post by Mister 93 »

1993 850 GLT 5speed 166K miles, clutch pedal goes to the floor and does not spring back or come up, I cant get it out of gear, If I force it to neautral I cant get it back in gear. I read in my Haynes manual that the brake resevour and clutch share the same fluid resevour, I have no problems with the brakes. Has anyone had this problem? A friend who has a honda had a similiar problem said it was his ClutchSlave Cylinder or his Clutch Master Cylinder. Has anyone changed either of these and how difficult was it.
Or could it be the clutch???

Thanks
93 850 GLT, just hit 163K

If there is a bubble in the system from a leak your clutch pedal would feel that way. Slave Cylinder is on the outside of the transmission, visible from the front of the car under the throttle body. Check that there is no fluid on the cylinder itself. If there is any, you need to change it. Also, have someone move the pedal while you watch te slave cylinder push the release fork. If the release fork moves, then you have an internal clutch problem and it is likely your hydraulics are ok.

I have changed the slave cylinder and it is not too hard a job. You just need to have circlip pliers (my circlip was difficult to remove) and some wrenches. Here's a tip - when installing the new part, remove the bleeder screw completely to torque down the fluid line while it is in the bracket. There's not much room to get tools in there.
