volvo 850 correct torque setting for cam cover bolts

Post by christhekiwi »

I torqued down my cam cover bolts last night while completing a HG replcement. I downloaded a service manual that gave a torque setting of 13 foot pounds. After reading that these were a bit delicate I slowly worked up from about 5fp and ended up on 10fp. The bolts felt like they were approaching their limit at that figure. (limit before stripping)

I now see a thread on here that states a max of 7Nm which is only 5 foot pounds. ??????

Can anyone clarify the correct torque please and whether i have over-tightened mine. Hopefilly the there are no implications for the cam sealant..........?

13 lb-ft , 17 N-m is the factory spec torque for those 7 mm bolts.
If you think the threads are compromised from corrosion or other you're probably not going to have problems if they are torqued to 10 lb-ft.
