1990 740 gl wagon faulty temperature gauge

hello from edmonton canada, my temperature gauge has been diagnosed as been faulty by a volvo mechanic and have i have told that i need to replace the instrument cluster, very hard to find anywhere, is there any way to repair the existing gauge? i have called rock auto and other parts places in the u.s. and they dont have the cluster or even repair kits. does anyone have any advice?
