I have a fuel leak on a line that comes from the underside of the car (passenger side) and goes up towards the front of the fuel tank. This line has a braiding on it as it is exposed (I guess). It looks as though the leak is at its elbow as it turns and goes up. The line originates from a plastic shroud that travels to the front of the car, along the bottom.
My question is this...
Can I cut this line and and replace the damaged area with high pressure rubber fuel line and clamps?

Rubber hose and clamps is very risky unless there are barbed fittings where you attach hose.
The hard plastic hose is not known for leaking so be sure you know where it is leaking. The source may be the elbow and not the hose.

I've just peeled off the braided cover. The line is metal and it connects to a rubber or plastic tube that continues to the front of the car. This metal line goes up to the fuel pump area at the other end, so I am assuming that it is a small section of the entire line that is metal. (It looks as though it had been painted green out of the factory.)

Not sure if I did this right, but here is a link that has pictures that clearly show the green line I referred to. At the bottom end, you can see the start of the covered or braided section...
