Fuel Gauge & Trip Computer

Could the fuel gauge and the trip computer share any components and when one goes bad could it affect the other? Car in question is a 2000 V70XC. Thanks.

Sort of.

If fuel gauge fail it can affect the last option of trip computer(how much miles to empty),other options like current/average fuel consumption and average speed would still be accurate.

If trip computer fail it can NOT affect fuel gauge readiness.
