Replacing ambient temp sensor

I understand the sensor is in the driver's side mirror. Can you tell me how to pop off the cover to change the sensor or should this only be done my a certified mechanic? I see that I can buy the part online for about $126.00. My husband is pretty handy so he will do it if we are sure we won't ruin the mirror. Any other information regarding this subject is greatly appreciated.

What year? What model? I have a pretty good write up for a 2001 S40.
