Relacing the serpentine belt on 99 non-turbo

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

Relacing the serpentine belt on 99 non-turbo

Post by wolfman1968 »

This is my first Volvo. I'm a DIY and want to replace the serpentine belt on my 99' -2.9 L (non-turbo). Anybody got manual pics or important info for this repair? Also, should I purchase a Volvo Serp belt? If not, who makes a good aftermarket belt? Appreciate any helpful info. Thanks.

I just did this on my 99 T6 as part of another repair. You basically loosen it by slacking off the tensioner with a 14mm wrench or something similar. After it's loose you apparently have to take of the harmonic balancer, according to this. https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums ... 0&p=190530 Once you get the balancer off (which can be sort of a struggle) you should be home free. I'm not sure if I would have had to take it off or not, because I had it off anyway for replacing an engine mount. Good luck.

Appreciate the feedback. Can you recommend a quality aftermarket company or should I go through Volvo?
