Today as I ascended a steep hill I got CEL P0422 main catalyst effiency but no other codes for O2 sensors. '96 850 non turbo wagon with 110k. The O2 sensors were replaced at 51K because of a vacuum leak that nobody could find so it ran rich for a couple months. This car also has a history of cold start short trips.
Does this mean my cat is kaput?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Edit: This afternoon I drove it about a mile. Cat must be over heating cause afterward it made a loud clicking (cooling metal sound) like it got too hot. Guess I'm a sunk puppy on this one.

Well, new wrinkle. It seems I didn't wait for the d0ne signal the first time I cleared the 0422 so it didn't clear. I cleared it today and test drove the heck out of the thing and could not get the code to set. Power seemed good... shifted out of second right at 100mph at 6000RPM in sport mode. Even ran it at 5500RPM in first gear for a few minutes.
Just cobbed up
While under there I see I've got a CV boot that just started throwing grease (which I really threw today). Where is UncleBoost when you need him to commiserate???

Well, to round out the perfect day we stopped at the Toyota dealer tonight just to look. After the sticker shock we got in the S70 and the rear view mirror broke off in my hand. You gotta love it!
wowo, how do it know?

Sean, I tried ebay for the mirror but nothing on there for an S70. I ordered a used one from erievovo this morning. Not cheap at $45 but at least they had it. Strandbergauto had the same price.
I ordered $675 in parts for CV boot and strut replacement on the 850, plus timing belt, water pump, motor mount, etc. for the S70 all from fcpgroton. They gave me free shipping plus a little bit more off on that big of an order.
I'm not driving the wagon this week until the parts arrive, which will give me ample time to knock 'er apart.
Thanks guys.
