1999 S80 T6...will it ever run well again? P1171 P1174 P0171

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

1999 S80 T6...will it ever run well again? P1171 P1174 P0171

Post by robbtagg »

1999 Volvo s80 T6.

Replaced CVVT, Coils, Plugs

Cleaned MAF

Searched for Air Leaks (Might be the problem?)

Codes:

P1171 Fuel Adaption Bank 1
P1174 Fuel Adaption Bank 1
P0171 Too Lean Bank 1

Exhaust smells really strong, stutters, surges, and gas mileage is half of what it should be.

Any Suggestions?

I am a little lost at this point. And she is too sexy to walk away from.

Help.

MAF Sensor maybe failing. If you can check the MAF value with a scanner, while at idle with AC off, it should read 14kg/h. If the sensor is bad it would be 16-25kg/h. Replace MAF sensor. Also, sometimes it may deceive you as the front O2 sensor, but it can be this too. Check all Vacumm hoses for leaks/cracks...if original, maybe time to replace them anyway...see IPD for kit. I'm not sure how to check the 02 sensor, but this would be my last resort for replacement. Hope that helps.

Juan, you have been very helpful through the process of fixing my car. I thought it might be the MAF. It was mentioned that if it was the MAF and it was idleing the way it is, that if I unplugged it and drove around I should notice a difference. I didn't. So, not sure if that means anything.

What type of scanner are you talking about? Where should I connect it? Is it just like a code reader?

Would a faulty MAF only register these codes for Bank 1? Or would it be for both banks?

I'm going to check the vacuum hoses thoroughly today. See what I find. Does anyone have any idea how many there are and where they are located?

Thanks!

I have also been reading that it could be a faulty/dirty ETM. Cleaning it seems like an easy DIY option. Could this be the culprit?
