Reduced Engine Performance

My 2003 XC70 would not start yesterday, though engine cranks. From what I could see in the "spinning" message code, appears to be "reduced engine performance." Also, check engine light was on. Had to have it towed 125 miles to dealer near my home. Also, tried it again after several hours to no avail. Any suggestions on the cause? Was able to recently diagnose power sunroof not opening by changing fuse #38 but this appears to be a bigger problem. Car just turned over 100K - was hoping to keep in but now it seems to be one thing after the other. Car was in a front right end crash about 3 years ago and "fully restored." Never been the same!
