Trailer Hitch on an 850

Post by alexk243 »

Any thoughts? Anyone ever done it? I see sites that sell kits, but I was wondering what type of experience people have had with it.

I got a kit from E-trailer for my 855. It was the easiest install ever. Direct bolt on - no cutting or drilling. Hardest part was the wiring not because it's difficult but because the color of the volvo wires is hard to see and it is easy to think you have the right color when you don't. There are good write ups on this site for this. It's important to use the volvo specific wiring adapter which takes power directly from the battery and is kind of pricey. Very happy with it.

4 bolts on each side and your done... helps to have and extra body when installing.

I have used after market electricals and they work, drawtite is a good brand and I usually pick the hitch up at UHAUL. Way cheaper than the Volvo Stealership!

You should try to price one at a parts store too. I was looking for one and the best price I found was just over 100. You just have to factor in shipping if you're not getting it locally.

How much did you end up paying? and did you have to splice into the wires or was it to a already made connector?

How much was it? I have worked with e-trailer (.com) before and I had good luck too.

I have a U-haul hitch from a 91 940 SE which fits your 850. It's a simple bolt on frame installation, and you do not even have to raise the car. I removed it just today since my 940 is going to the scrap yard.....it's a shame since there are many good parts available as well as newer Goodyears (less than 10,000 miles, closer to 8,000)

I'm in Flagstaff, Arizona and can sell and ship to you. PM me if interested.

Hitch is solid and have the reciever, also. A simple 7 bolt install.
