Opinions needed on broken door glass 04 V70R

Post by GlennKorec »

I just picked up my 04 V70R used from the local Volvo dealer Monday night. Yesterday, I went to roll the drivers door window down, and heard a clunk and the window stopped. I tried to roll it back up and the auto return kicked in and tried to roll it down when I heard a cracking noise. The window is off its track and is loose in the door. I pulled the glass up and noticed a chip in the front edge near the bottom and a cracked line along the bottom 3/4 of the glass. Should I ask the dealer to take care of this? or call my insurance company?? I have full glass coverage with no deductable?? Any thoughts are welcomed.

Ask the dealer first to see if he will make it good. You have at least 2 problems, the glass fell off the track due to metal fatigue and the glass is broken. Your insurance co. will replace the glass for free, but repairing the hardware will be extra and on yur dime.

Good luck

I didn't see anything suggesting metal fatigue on the mechanism, only chipped and cracked glass.

You should have the mechanism checked for proper operation though. These mechanisms lift the glass on a raising shelf so most of the work's force is distributed over the length of the bottom edge. Lowering essentially is gravity assisted.

Thanks Guys,

I called the volvo dealer Monday, and they replaced the regulator and glass. They made good on it no charge. They even gave me a free loaner car.

Thanks,
Glenn
