98 V70 T-5 Manual Transmission
98 V70 T-5 Manual Transmission
I know these kind of questions get asked often, but please indulge me. I am looking at buying another V70. This one is a 98 T5 with a manual transmission. What are the top things I should be concerned about when deciding to buy or not? Mileage is 150K....

2004 C70 HPT (wife)
2002 S40 1.9T (daughter)
2001 V70 XC (daughter)
1999 V70 GLT (now dead)
1998 V70 GLT (son)
The other car: 2003 Saab 9-3 SE Convertible (mine)

Same as you would with an automatic; but check out the synchros at ~4000 RPM between gears. The change from 1-2 can grind sometimes as well as 2-3.
Other than that:
-MAINTENANCE RECORDS!!!
-PCV
-Timing belt
-Road manners
-Odd tire wear patterns
-Does the AC work?
Most don't need a clutch til around 200,000 unless it's been abused.
I wish they'd made more T5 sedans with a manual - you seem to see them a lot more in the wagons for some reason. Not sure if that's true in the numbers produced or not.

Actually, the 98-2000 T5 numbers and my own experience in tracking the sales of these models is that there are FAR more sedans than wagons with the manual transmission. I don't have the exact production numbers in front of me but I see 10 used S70 T5Ms on the market for every 1 V70 T5M.
Edit, here are the numbers for S70 T5M:
1998 : 361 cars
1999 : 197 cars
2000 : 75 cars
for the V70 T5M:
1998: 127 cars
1999:
2000:
Can't find the numbers for the other two years right now but suffice it to say they followed the same trend as the S70.
