Thieves in my opinion. Kind of rude too. They wanted to charge me for getting the radio code for my car (orig radio) even after they had already pulled all required info to cut me some keys. The service guy sort of realized I knew a little and relented and handed me the paper. $100.00 + for two cut keys. Wanted $900 + for a timing belt job on a 98 V70. I did not feel comfortable with them. The Car Emporium in Warwick is good and they only use bluebox. Tasca in RI is very close to me but so far I've not used them for parts or service. They have a fair rep and a BIG dealership.

I almost had to stop reading right there. That's an automatic red flag. Thanks for the inupt, rmmagow.

Coming from a long time "anonymous reader" of the site, I felt it only right to create a screen name and back my local dealer - Steingold Volvo. I've been purchasing my Volvo's from them for the past 7 years and have never had an issue. Sure, they're not a huge operation, but that's just what I like..Waiting room is fantastic; Service writers are pleasant and never upsell; front desk is always prompt; and the prices aren't outrageous.

Maybe you caught them on a bad day at the parts counter for them to charge you for a radio code, but in my experience, they would never do anything to harm a relationship.

And I even looked up the recent reviews on DealerRater.com - no red flags there for sure..http://www.dealerrater.com/dealer/Stein ... iew-13123/[/size[/size]]

I just called them, asking what I need for my radio code (VIN) and if they charge. Answer: free.

And they have two 5 star Google ratings.

Must have been a bad day there. I'll put them back on the MVS Volvo Parts page.

Yeah, I must have caught them on a bad day. I think mainly is they knew I wasn't a previous customer and based on the fact that I was looking for things for a '98 they probably figured they'd never see me again anyway. Still, I felt a bit insulted since I like the car, like car dealers in general and like to feel at least a little respect when dropping my money. I have heard more about them since my earlier experience and wouldn't shy away from them if I wanted dealer level service on say a 2012 V70. I am not a new car buyer at any rate, either well used and interesting, like the Volvo or well used and refrigerator-like, my son's Saturn.
