So I'm reading info on removing the SAS SYSTEM from operation in the 70s. I have a 1998 XC70 AWD and the other day, in the course of other work and trying to diagnose a lacking power situation, Irealized that the pump was gurgling water. I read up, drilled the holes in the bottom and now it's dry. While working on other stuff I noticed that the arm/tube (intake?) coming off the SAS VALVE and attaches to the exhaust pipe was loose. While trying to tighten it down i broke the very brittle old tube coming off the other end of the valve and leads to the SAS pump (exhaust?). I came to the conclusion that I may just go without the SAS VALVE and if not remove the pump, at least render it worthless. My question is, to those who have done the diode mod is, did you remove the valve, cap it or leave it in place or if you removed the valve completely. If you removed it all together, how did you deal with the port on the exhaust pipe after the manifold but before the cat converter. Any help and info on your experience will be appreciated.

Either remove it from the exhaust and bung it with an M16 or leave it.

All I did was remove the pump and put in the diode. For now, a piece of tape on the breather box and no CEL for almost 3,000 miles. I have seen two fixes on here, make sure you use the right one. Someone should chime in with it.

This is the correct way to do it, A32 to A37, either soldering to the pins of the ECU or connecting to the wires underneath the ECU:

That's the one.
Don't be afraid to open the box and do the work.
Undo the battery and let it reset code.
Make sure diode is going in proper direction.
