1995 850 NA Gold

Post by precopster » Mon Feb 27, 2012 12:51 am

Purchased her in July 2009 with 112K (kilometres) for $5,500 as the Volvo 760 V6 was not worth repairing after a leaky radiator was quoted at $400 to replace and oil consumption hard to keep up with. On the new 850 the oil pressure light was flickering when idling in the first week of ownership. New oil every 6 months has permanently fixed this problem. Previous owner allowed 12K b/w last oil change.

1) By August 2009 as weather was warming the 850 often wouldn't start after a warm start or even if the weather was warm and the engine cold. Forums led me to believe the fuel relay could have poor solder joints. After a quick retouch with a soldering iron the car has never missed a beat.
Also often while taking off the transmission slipped in 1st gear then grabbed. A drain and fill with Castrol DQIII 12L fixed this immediately. Replaced outer CV and boot. Replaced rotor & spark plugs.
Above cost: $210

2) November 2009 114K Replaced coolant, upper & lower radiator hoses & water pump (Hepu) and timing belt as well as front and rear cam seals.
Above cost $220

3) May 2011 4 X new tyres 124K (rear Goodyears and front Kumhos) The instrument light adjuster failed and was replaced with a used unit.
Above cost: $585

4) June 2011 Heater core, firewall coupling & both upper & lower heater hoses were replaced as preventative maintenance. Old heater core had slight leak upon removal
Above cost: $170

5) September 2011 127K The RMS was leaking since purchase so this was replaced as well as upper torque mount last year at Berry Automotive Group. Now no leaks at all.
Above cost: $900

6) Jan 2012 129K Finally cleaned & reshaped the PNP switch contacts to repair the inoperative reverse lights and annoying habit of sometimes not shifting out of 1st gear on a cold start which had begun in July 2011. Upgraded sound to factory CD player: code 6512. Replaced both link rods and degreased/pressure washed underbody.
Above cost $75

Failed to mention that we had the a/c regassed about 3 years ago and dye added. Still works fine.
Cost: around $140

Also in November 2009 I replaced the timing belt pulley, serpentine belt and the hydraulic tensioner.
Cost: about $150

New front Continental tyres & Changed oil & filter at 147K (kilometres) Used Valvoline mineral 15W/40, new oil cap seal and Ryco filter.

Also replaced overhead dome light as central button failed.

Cost: $400
